Friends, readers, comrades, hate posters, trolls, influencers, outfluencers, and those who are not yet fluent, welcome to my newsletter!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am the famous author Stephen King. You should give me money so I can renovate my house in Maine and become the trans-dimensional horror god I have always been destined to be.
Just kidding.
Seriously, though, I’m super excited to share with you what I’ve been working on. I know some of you are loyal readers who came on board with the first alien mystery and others are just arriving after reading or hearing about the new apocalyptic satire—good grief, is that even really a genre?—Apocalypse: Managed (more on that below). But whatever it is that’s brought you, I’m glad you’re here. I can’t wait to share more stories with you.
About me
I have been a lover of stories and storytelling for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I used to make my grandmother tell me the stories of the Greek and Roman gods. Eventually, she ran out of those stories, but I still wanted more, so she started to make them up. I loved the creative tension and the drama of the divine and the human coinciding.
Growing up, I read comic books and great literature, mysteries and science fiction, comedies and drama. They all swirled together and influenced each other. That is the kind of writing I want to do too. I call what I do “surreal fiction” because it is grounded in reality but plays in all these different categories. Basically, I try to write the kind of stories I like to read. If they resonate with some of you, I am most humbled and grateful.
In addition to being a writer and a reader, I’m also a Catholic, a husband, and a father of children with special needs. Each of these things has a strong impact on who I am and what I do. It informs but it does not contain my work. I’m happy to be read by Catholics, for instance, but I don’t want to be a “Catholic author” in the sense that I’m not trying to write only for one audience of people who may or may not have something in common with me. I have a strong interest in truth, beauty, and goodness, but zero interest in proselytizing or making my writing serve some other hidden agenda.
Apocalypse: Managed
I’m very pleased to announce the publication of Apocalypse: Managed by Park End Books. It is available in paperback or for e-reading through the publisher here, through the evil gremlins at Amazon here, or wherever books are sold. What would happen if you overslept and almost missed the apocalypse? How would you respond to the end of the world if you were a control freak? These questions and more are answered in this odd adventure story that I hope you will find hilarious and thought provoking.
It’s a great book for book club reading. And if you want to throw a themed dinner party to discuss it, here’s some recommendations for how to do that.
In the weeks and months ahead, I hope to do some more fun things with this book, including promotions and giveaways, all of which I’ll announce in a future newsletter, so stay tuned!
A new edition of Inalienable
An updated version of my first book, the alien murder mystery Inalienable, will be released exclusively through Amazon in the next couple of weeks. In addition to some cosmetic changes—such as phonetic spellings of the character names—there will also be a lead-in to Apocalypse: Managed. All of this comes in anticipation of the release of the next book in the series later this year.
Until next month…
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. I’ll be back next month to bother you all again, but if you need even more inane banter from me in the mean time, come visit me on Twitter or Goodreads or Facebook. You can also visit my website at jonathanandrew.org.
peace and love,
